Sparkling and Celebrating

The plan was to share a sparkling and thought provoking post this week. (Humor me - it would have sparkled in my head, at least for a moment, anyway!) However, I got swept up in the busy tide of activity recently, helping someone move, among other things. I realized late Saturday night that I still needed to do Monday's post. Oops.

Hoping to rest a bit on Sunday, I needed an alternative plan. Since we celebrate the 4th of July, aka Independence Day, this week in the United States, I thought a "Sparkling and Celebrating" theme would make a good substitute.

As for the Sparkling part - our writing can shine upon learning the craft and polishing skills. Do you agree? I enjoy observing, stretching, and implementing techniques during the process.

And as for Celebrating - we have abundant blessings, don't we? There's always something for which to be thankful, and to celebrate. I'm grateful for the saving grace of Jesus, my family, and in particular my husband, whose birthday falls midweek.

Now it's your turn to jump into this theme. :) What makes your writing sparkle? What are you celebrating and thankful for this week?

Happy writing,
Karen

  2. Not sure how I would point to my writing as "sparkling," although I think it does sparkle for many who read my books and offer positive feedback. :)
And not a day goes by when I'm NOT thankful for so many things. I keep a daily gratitude journal, which has been a great practice for me. I'd recommend it to everyone!
    Blessings and Happy 4th, Karen!

  3. I'm not sure about sparkling, but I do feel something when good, clean prose comes down onto the page, and I can be proud to put my name after it.

We are a country with much to be grateful for, and I appreciate all that I have very much. Happy Fourth to you.

  4. Sandi,
Glad you agree! :D Counting my blessings daily.

    Martha,
Positive feedback is so nice, isn't it? :) A gratitude journal is a great idea. I need to start one. :)

    Lee,
I like the way you put that - being proud to put your name after it. That's a good goal to keep in mind! :)

    Happy 4th,
    Karen

  5. I received a proof copy of my forthcoming book last Wednesday. I found errors that I should have caught sometime ago. I have been reading and re- reading the copy to figure out how to get the bloopers taken care of. I finally went through the last copy from the editor and changed the ones I should have caught earlier. I will wait until after the holiday and send the list and the corrected copy of the manuscript to the book format lady to correct the things she has to do. This has been a learning experience for me. It will now sparkle and I will celebrate when it gets out for the world to see.

  6. Happy 4th, Karen, in these last few moments before the day is over. My writing sparkles come mostly with what seem like bright ideas that pop in my head--they always seem so 'sparkly' anyway, until it's time to get them down on paper. Then somehow they lose a little luster. But then that's why there's a thing called revision--with the hope that the real sparkle will show up! As for celebrating the things we're thankful for, my list is super long. A sleepover with a grandchild is what tops tonight's list :-)

  7. Cecelia,
Congrats on your upcoming release! I've had that happen too, where I've spotted errors after they should have been caught. Wishing you well on the journey! :)

    Kenda,
Thank you! :) They often seem "sparkly", don't they? And then we go forth and make them shine, albeit after varying amounts of tweaking. Hope the sleepover was fun!

    Happy writing,
    Karen

  8. We definitely have abundant blessings. I feel blessed just to have time to write, blog, love my family, and live life. I feel blessed to walk. I feel blessed to pray.
Happy 4th of July and Independence Day (late)!

  9. Hi Karen - just enjoy the writing process ... creating is so important. We are lucky to be here in the first world - there are opportunities that we don't need to ignore - we need to fulfil our life - cheers Hilary

  10. Tyrean,
Amen! :) Counting our blessings is a wonderful thing. Hope you are having a great week!

    Hilary,
I'm with you, creating is an important part of the process. Without it, we wouldn't be able to sparkle, right? :)

    Happy writing,
    Karen

  11. Glitter. I sprinkle it on my notebook. 😛 Seriously though, learning and polishing does make writing sparkle.

  12. There is so much to celebrate, yet sometimes I forget with my 'task' list taking over the present! When I know my writings or my photography touches a heart, then I know my writing had a sparkle of light!

  13. You know, I find myself celebrating the small stuff. It's really the little, ordinary things that make me happy. I think that bleeds over into my writing and my personal interactions with people. Which spells 'life' to me.

I'm glad I get to spread it around. Happy summer, my friend!

  15. I'm definitely with you on the celebrating thing. I had to look around at my awesome family, my beautiful home, and the incredible comforts we enjoy this week. Do we do that often enough rather than worrying about things we need to do or don't have? Reflection is the key to joy, eh?
