The Big Rocks

Christian Writer/Reader Connection's
Susan J. Reinhardt shares an interesting story about prioritizing. This thought provoking little treasure makes you think. Questions that came to my mind were, well, let's just say that you need to read the post first. I don't want to give it all away! No doubt some of you have heard the story before, but it is a good reminder of what's important.

Following My King shares similar thoughts in this post. It's an appropriate time of year to reflect and reassess goals, desires, callings, and priorities.

One of my favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." (NKJV) One translation says "For I know the plans I have for you"; either way, it speaks so much in regard to our Heavenly Father's love and plans for us. May our priorities align with His calling for our lives.

What have you learned about your calling and priorities this year? We'd love to hear about it. Blessings to you:)

  1. That's a favorite scripture of mine to Karen! It's good to know that God has good things in mind for all of us and He is fully able to perform them.

This year has given me the mind to reach out to my call to write and embrace it. I've loved every minute of surrender since then.

  2. I'm guessing you're referring to Susan's post about the rocks in the jar? If not, that's an excellent post of hers too! She's so insightful!

    Blessings to you today, Karen!

  5. Hi Karen -

Thanks for the link to my blog!

I'll be doing some re-prioritizing in the New Year. One thing about rocks in the jar: they tend to change size as we enter new seasons of life.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  7. Karen, excellent post. And it made me think. I have been known to prioritize in the WRONG direction. And sometimes have to tell my father in Heaven that I am sorry, for it's HIS will not mine. :)

  9. One great lesson I've learned this year is to stop and listen to the Lord instead of running headlong the way I think and want to go. That's my priority this new year is to wait on the Lord. I don't want to miss any blessings along the way because I'm all hung up in the briars where I fell off the path because I was hurrying along my way!

  11. Hey, Karen!

I've learned that I need to keep my priorities and live my calling. And that in order to do either, I need to be in tune with who I am, what my soul cries out for, and what God is saying, not what I think everyone around me wants me to do.

  12. Hi Kristen,
That's another great point (or points:) and I think it is part of the balance we need to have. Glad you stopped by!

  13. Isn't it nice to know that God has a specific plan for each of us? This year, the Lord nudged me (ok, maybe shoved me is more accurate!) to begin a devotional blog! I can't begin to describe the blessing it's been to write about those things He's teaching me. It's so important for me to trust His leading and resist apathy!! Thanks for the encouraging post, Karen! :)

  15. Karen:
We all have to prioritize the many duties we have to perform in our lives.
A believer has to listen to the Lord and follow His guiding in every instance.
Case in point: I haven't really started my Christmas shopping yet. I am involved in a church Christmas play and that takes time. I am one of the directors.
    Thanks for the nice words.

  19. Susan's analogy using the rock jar is great. I've been doing a lot of prioritizing this year. Trying to consider what my big rocks are! I've been trying to focus on things that are in common so I am not all over the place. I've been praying for the Lord to bring definition to my purpose and He is so faithful in doing so.

  20. Hi Carla,
Prioritizing here too, lots of thinking and praying and pondering. I'll second that too; He is faithful.
    Thanks for stopping by!
