Destination Unknown

Anyone who thinks that writing is an adventure, raise your hand!

It's a journey that holds challenges, but joy and satisfaction too. Amen?

"Writing is mind traveling, destination unknown."

One of the things that I enjoy about being a writer is summed up in this quote; I don't always know where it will lead. What an amazing ride!

What writing adventures have you had over the years? Where is your writing taking you now?

Happy Mother's Day weekend!
Karen

  1. My writing takes me in all directions. Just when I call myself an essaysist, others call me a poet. Happy Mother's Day.

  3. Today I'll be doing something totally different than the normal. I'm off to interview a special lady whose 100th birthday is today :-) This should be fun...

  4. Linda,
Wearing a lot of hats has its perks sometimes! I'm glad we can just say that we are writers. Kinda covers it all!

    Alex,
Hey, congrats on the second book! That's exciting!

    Kenda,
What great fun! And what great stories she must have. Wow. Hope you have a great time!

  7. I always love stopping by and reading your quotes. My journey now is A-Z of thankfulness and is proving a challenge as the goal of my blog is to be inspirational. Some letters are hard to find a word that others can relate to in their journey of gratefulness.

  9. Karen, it's all about the journey, the destination unknown. YEAH!

Love you amigo. I was smiling after the mailman left. Guess what came? hehe

Can't wait to to read it. *wink*

Have a most lovely Mother's Day. You deserve it. And with six boys and a girl, I shall just sit and let the presents and doting cover me. :-)

  10. You're not kidding, it's been an adventure. And 'yes' to challenges; 'yes' to joy!

Mine takes me (as you know) into many homes via the local newspaper. It's also taking me to the college where our son attends, a happy surprise for sure.

I don't know where else it will take me, but I'm excited!

    Waving and smiling,

    Rhonda

P.S. - Part of the joy has been making friends like you along the way. Truly.

  11. The writing journey is my destination :) I love it and I hate it, but it has taken me to places I never expected (like having a monthly column in a national magazine in Holland and having a home study group based on my books!) Awesome so far! Difficult? Yes. Rewarding? Yes!
Love you Karen, your posts are always inspiring!

  12. Writing has brought me a tremendous amount of joy throughout my life, Karen. In teaching Creative Writing in a classroom setting, it was great helping others find their own joy! Writers see through different eyes than the average person. Colors, patterns, designs, etc. all come in to focus, to be described in an article or column. It's great to observe, talk with people, try new foods in a restaurant, go on day trips, and then write all about it! Writing is such a great gift in life.

Where is my writing taking me now? Well, my blog is a labor of sheer love each day, and continuing to freelance adds to the excitement of life. Thanks for asking the question!

    Take care. Susan

    Lydia,
Yes! We may as well enjoy it. I don't know about you, but I get grouchy if I'm too tense on the journey. :P

    Shanda,
You're doing a great job on the A-Z adventure! I need to get back over there and see what letter you're on!

    Joylene,
Happy Mother's Day to you too! Hope you have a great day!

    Robyn,
Well, I would say that you've earned a bit of a break for Mother's Day! Love you too, girl!

    Rhonda,
Love reading about your adventures, too! And I must agree with you; a big part of the joy is meeting those like you too!

    Marja,
You've done some exciting things with your writing. Can't wait to see what's next! Love you too. :)

    Susan W.,

Writing is my grand escape from the normalcy of real life. Bye-bye bills and work stress and laundry! I feel so sorry for those who do not write--oh, what they miss!

  15. Oooh, good questions! I wish I had funny answers but my writing hasn't led me anywhere in particular physically. Emotionally, that's a whole 'nother story!

I love this quote - "Writing is mind traveling, destination unknown."

You can go anywhere by writing or by reading and never have to leave the house.

    Very exciting.

  21. Hi Karen -

This space is too small to contain my adventures. Writing is wonderful, satisfying, thrilling, hard, tearing-my-hair-out frustrating all at the same time.

    Blessings,
    Susan :)

  24. My adventures tend to come through the learning I gain while writing. It's a journey I hope never to end.

    Happy Mother's Day, Karen!

  25. Writing is always a journey into the unknown, even if I have a plot with a clear X-marks-the-spot ending, there is always something that changes, and changes the story for the better.

Plus, I'm always learning new things.

    Happy Mother's Day!!!

  27. Karen:
My writing has taken me to some places that only God could have been the source of.
My short plays have instructed people about Him and His love for them.
My newsletters have passed on information to our supporting churches and individuals about the needs of children of incarceration. The second newsletter gives information to the caregivers about where they can receive help in our community.
My blog is intended to point people to Jesus.

  28. I'm not a prolific writer...yet...but my writing has taken me to compiling anecdotes, thoughts, myriad little moments from my life and the lives of my boys, to finally present in book form to my grandchildren. I started it when they were not even born...now I have a grand-daughter, Alyssa (15 mths)
    Happy Mother's Day!
