I'm excited! The Clear Creek Writers, my local writers' group, is sponsoring an event this coming weekend. It's been a while since I've attended a conference, so it will be fun and encouraging to hear great speakers and hobnob with other writers. If you live in Kentucky or the surrounding area and are interested, here are the details.
What: Confessions of Working Writers II
Where: 934 Main Street, Shelbyville, KY 40065
When: Saturday, May 21, 2011, 9 am to 4 pm
Who: Speakers include authors Ann Gabhart, Annie Jones, Laura Resnick, Virginia Smith, and poet Sherry Chandler.
Why: For great writerly wisdom and fellowship of course!
How: To register or obtain more info, email Gail Chandler at curtisandgailc@insightbb.com. Additional details can be found on the Clear Creek Writers' blog. (Note that a few items have changed slightly since that posting.)
Hidden Treasures
Since I'm gearing up for this event, I was pleased to see one of Hope Clark's recent posts entitled Hidden Treasures You Find at Conferences. Talk about perfect timing! I am armed and ready to go.
Do you get excited about conferences? Care to share why or why not?
Taking a break for a bit, see you on or around the 26th. Have a great week!
Happy writing,
Karen

If that picture is where you conference is going to be then I'm totally jealous! Have a great time!

ReplyDeleteThe picture is lovely. Is that the conference destination? Have a wonderful time.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your break, Karen. Wish I could join you for that conference. Perhaps one of these days I'll get serious about authoring ...
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Kathleen
Have a great time! Too far for me.
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds wonderful, Karen. So glad you are going to get to go. Please write about some of your workshops, etc. so the rest of us, outside of Kentucky, can go, too. Okay? Thanks. Susan
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteWell, it's a pic of the countryside here, so yes, kind of!
Rachna,
This does depict our general area but it isn't the exact location. I'll pass something like it when I drive to the conference in town. :)
Kathleen,
Thanks a bunch! Hoping to get a lot done. I'd say you already are a writer...:)
Alex,
Thanks! Yes, I guess you are a fair piece away. Maybe sometime when you are on your book tour!
Susan W.,
I am really looking forward to it. :) That's a great idea, I will have to write about what I learned. Thanks for the encouragement to do so!
Blessings,
Karen
Have a wonderful week karen, enjoy and be inspired! I am so glad there is a conference close to your home!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your conference!
ReplyDeleteI do love conferences, but do not attend as many as I would like. Most aren't cheap or local, and my family duties don't allow for much travel. I do attend when able---just the networking alone, meeting other writers, is invaluable.
Looks like it will be a great time for fellowship and learning!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for you!! Wish I could go to one again soon:)
ReplyDeleteMarja,
ReplyDeleteThank you, I am excited! You have a great week too.
Lisa,
I hear you. That's one reason I like this one - it's reasonable AND local. Can't miss with this one!
Sandie,
I'm hoping so. Get to meet Ann Gabhart in person - excited about that. :) I've interviewed her but not met face to face.
Terri,
Thanks a bunch! That's right, you were on the west coast not long ago. As a speaker no less! :)
Blessings,
Karen
Sounds nice--enjoy!!!!
ReplyDeleteKaren,
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time. You deserve it!
Sounds like a wonderful conference. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLaura,
ReplyDeleteThank you! Enjoyed your post today.
Jennifer,
Thanks so much. May even work on a guest post for Pen and Prosper!
Clarissa,
I think it will be really good. Can't wait!
Take care all,
Karen
Hope you have a wonderful time! I can't wait until a conference fits into my life somewhere down the road. What fun!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your break; drop lots of hankies close to Sbux, if you know what I mean. Just tried their caramel macchiato, and I think I could switch back and forth between that and my favorite. :)
Waving and grinning,
Rhonda
Oooh, I know you're going to have a great time! One of the greats among other great writers:)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, relax and soak up the ambiance!
Best,
Clara
I'm a huuuge conference fan, especially after going to my first ACFW conference last year. There's no substitute for face-to-face time.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great time!
Rhonda,
ReplyDeleteOh yes, hankies and Sbux, the break will certainly include those! lol
Clara,
Yes, lots of relaxing and soaking - I'm all for that!
Sarah,
I agree! It can be quite an experience, perhaps even overwhelming, but certainly worth it in the benefits you reap.
Blessings,
Karen
Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI get very excited for writer's conferences as it's the only time I get to be around several writers at once. As they say, there's comfort in numbers!
Have a great time at the conference!
ReplyDeleteI do get a bit nervous before conferences since I still do not know a lot of people in my writing community. Have a great time at yours!
ReplyDeleteHave fun this weekend, Karen, and be sure to blog all about it. I'll be attending many soccer games, so it's impossible for me to join you guys. But I'm definitely sad about it.
ReplyDeleteEileen,
ReplyDeleteHey, this is true! And who "gets" us but writers? :)
Angela,
Thanks! Have a good week!
Lynn,
I get a little nervous too. But I'm still looking forward to it. :)
Blessings,
Karen
Heather,
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm glad you have soccer games but sad you can't make it to the workshops. :) Maybe next time!
Have fun,
Karen
I love writing conferences because of all the positive energy that is usually present!!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen -
ReplyDeleteWish I could join you! Have a wonderful time.
Blessings,
Susan :)
Enjoy!!
ReplyDeletePaul,
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree! Thanks for coming by.
Susan R.,
I do too! That would be fun. :)
Diane,
Thanks a bunch!
Have a good week all,
Karen
Great! Have fun! Wish I could be there with you.
ReplyDeleteKaren:
ReplyDelete(SIGH) I wish I could. But I can't.
Looks like every one here loves going for conferences. I'm the only one who has reservations. It's not that I don't like a conference, it's just that I get anxious and nervous about attending one...don't ask why; I don't know!
ReplyDeleteI love conferences, and I can't wait to go to one in Wales in a month or so. Have a great time!
ReplyDeleteWe lived in Louisville, KY for 5 years. Our son was born there. LOVED IT, LOVED IT! If there had been any viable opportunities we would have stayed there. Unfortunately we have only been back once since we left in '96. Have a great time at the conference.
ReplyDeleteJen,
ReplyDeleteOh I do too! We'd have a blast. Maybe sometime in the future. We'll need to add a lively one and a Susie Q too!
Cecelia,
It would be fun if you could go too. Maybe someday, we don't live that far apart!
Joy,
Well, I still get a little nervous at first but there's always friendly people and a lot to learn. You should go sometime; we'll cheer you on!
Talli,
Hope you have a great time in Wales! Sounds like fun. :)
Sally,
I didn't know you had lived in the area! We'll have to compare notes sometime. :)
Happy weekend all,
Karen
Happy writing to you. I can't wait to hear about your conference. Hope it was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read of the treasures you gained from the conference!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing about the conference (and your R&R).
