Do You Love to Write?

Did you know?

November 15 is I Love to Write Day

Author John Riddle is the creator of this little known celebration, which is recognized by the governors of nine states. If you are a resident of Delaware, New Jersey, Kentucky, Maryland, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Texas, or Florida you will be pleased to know that this day has been officially noted in your state.

Mr. Riddle started ILTWD in 2002, thinking that it would be a good way to celebrate the art of writing and to hold the “world’s largest party for writers.”

He goes on to say, "My goal for I Love to Write Day is simple; people of all ages are encouraged to write something. A poem, a letter, an essay, start a novel, finish a novel...the possibilities are endless!"

Visit the I Love to Write Day site for more info.

Don't you love Mr. Riddle's idea? Even for writers, it offers an extra measure of enthusiasm and thankfulness for what we do.

How will you celebrate this special day?

Writing for NaNoWriMo, blog posts, an article, a journal, or flash fiction?

Please share your writing adventures, big or small, with us. :)

Have a great weekend!

Happy writing,

Karen

  2. What an awesome idea. I'll be busy writing at work today. I'll try to celebrate it as I get through my big stack of tasks.

I think so! I am sure you can make it work! :)

    Natalie,
I know, I love it! Technically it's tomorrow (the 15th) so maybe that'll give you a little time to plan. :)

    Happy writing,

  7. Thanks for the heads-up, Karen. Had not heard of I Love to Write Day before. Think of how such a day could be highlighted for children and how it could jumpstart the writing spark for them. Hmmmm....food for thought!

  9. Kenda,
I know, this has so many possibilities! John has taken the message to schools and other student groups. It's a wonderful idea! :)

    Jen,

  10. Karen, I believe I heard of this day several years ago. My schedule for tomorrow, as it stands now, is full. Prayer time with a prayer group in the morning, visitation in the afternoon, and then play practice (one scene) in the evening. But I love to write.

  13. Hi Karen! I also have never heard of this special day, but I don't live in the states you mentioned. Rats! But it is good to point out that writing can be a love-fest. (Well, it can also be uber frustrating, but we don't need a day for that!)

Writing sure is a special calling, and that in itself is a reason to celebrate. It must have special meaning for you this year, with your book coming out! How will you spend this day??
    Have a great weekend :)

  17. Ceil,
Glad to introduce you to ILTW day! I heard about it maybe 10 years ago and thought it a wonderful idea. :) Hope you got to write a little today!

    Nutschell,
I say celebrate it anyway whether your state recognizes it or not! :) Hope you got the chance to write today! :)

    Terri,
What a great idea for your grandson! That's such a fun age. :)

    Lisa,
Now that's an excellent point! :)

    S.P.,
Yes this is true! Would make a fun theme for writing with kids. :)

    Happy weekend,

  23. I didn't celebrate because of A) Work, B) Back pain, and C) Church commitment. Is it okay to have a belated celebration?

  24. I had no idea. I remember writing that day, but it was a query and synopsis.
