How Do You Like Your Change?

"Change is good, but dollars are better."

Unknown

I saw this on a t-shirt years ago and had to laugh. I agree.

But then, if you get enough change, it adds up to dollars, right?

Joking aside, how do you handle change?

Do you embrace it or chafe when it pops up?

I handle certain kinds of change well. You know the kind -

Hubby says, "How about we go out to eat tonight?"

"Yes, dear!"

I'm totally there, you know? I'm all for being flexible in that respect,

but not so great with other kinds of change. I like a routine and

prefer to know what's up ahead. But we don't always know, do we?

That's why I'm thankful that God is in control. No matter what happens,

nothing takes Him by surprise. He's still on the throne.

What kind of change do you embrace? What kind makes you run for cover?

What keeps you balanced and on track?

Have a wonderful weekend,

Karen

  1. Funny t-shirt!

Good question. I like stability, but my life has had a lot of change the last few years. I've learned to go with it. Sort of.

  2. A good question. I like change, if it's spontaneous and I don't have to PLAN for it. The more I think the more problems I find!

  3. I try to roll with the punches. I have lived long enough to have learned that my way isn't always His way, and patience is indeed a virtue.

  4. I'm more flexible than I used to be, but still not very. I like the words to a Randy Travis song: "Nothing breaks if it can bend."

Thanks for a great post, Karen.

  5. I do believe the older you get - the easier it is to adapt to changes - something to look forward to for you - lol. sandie

  6. I'll admit - I am a creature of habit. Just starting my blog was a big change. I'm getting better though.

  7. Theresa,
I know, I wish I could find that t-shirt again! You have had a lot of change to work with lately. :)

    Annie,
Yes, thinking, sometimes that can make more out of things. Perhaps we should avoid it altogether? :P

    Linda,
Patience is something good, and something that I need to work more on!

    Carol,
That is a good line - I'll have to remember that!

    Alex,
Creature of habit, me too! Working on getting better.

    Happy Thursday,
    Karen

  8. Sandie,
You are too funny! :) So now I suppose I should be flexible while waiting to get better at it?

  9. I love change in my pocket, but not so much in my life. I like to be 'comfortable' :o)

Greeks frown at a 20 euro note, so change is good if you want to leave a shop without being infected by the evil eye :o) LOL

  10. Hi Karen....I embrace changes that are happy ones, like receiving an unexpected check in the mail or a surprise visit from a friend.

The kind that usually makes me run for cover involve losing someone I love to death.

Knowing, as you said, that God is in control keeps me balanaced and on track. I know that, no matter what, everything will be okay. All I have to do is keep my eyes on the Rock.

Hope your day is going along splendidly. Susan

  11. I have always welcomed change. It is a good thing as my life is changing so much now I cannot keep up with it. I find myself resisting change more than ever before. Much of it has to be with my kids leaving home :) Nothing I can do about that.

  12. I must admit, I'm not big on change, unless it marks progress.

I hate change that is more hype than truth, like "new and improved" versions of many products.

But, Amen to God being a comforting "constant".

  13. Hey now, change can be a good thing! Scary but good:)

    Clara.

  14. Jessica,
Comfort - yes, me too! All that little change (the real kind) does add up. :)

    Susan,
Happy changes are the easiest to deal with, I agree!

    Shanda,
I know what you mean - I've seen a lot of changes in the last bunch of years. Better to go with the flow, you're right!

    Jennifer,
That's a good perspective to have - change that marks progress. And yes, the hype, don't care for that kind of "change".

    Clara,
Yes, you are right! When we push through and move ahead, we have opportunity to grow. :)

    Happy weekend,
    Karen

  15. Hi Karen -

As I grow in the Lord, I'm better able to handle change. What sent me into a tailspin years ago barely causes a blip on the radar screen today.

Of course, technology can still sent me over the edge. :)

    Blessings,
    Susan

  16. Karen:
I only like the changes I understand the need for. Our son moving 600 miles away was because he got a job. I understood the event and the need.
Our friend on the church drama ministry being diagnosed with Lung Cancer and being taken from us four weeks later, I had to accept.
Change that I can't accept are the ones that others tell me I have to and don't explain their stance to help me formulate how I feel.

  17. Susan,
I am the same way in certain areas, and in others, am still a work in progress. I have been tempted to trash some of my technological gadgets once in a while! lol

    Cecelia,
I knew your son had moved; I hope he is doing well. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. That is never easy; will pray for you all.

    Blessings,
    Karen

  18. I don't mind change... as long as it involves every one else and not me. :)

I just follow the bread crumbs from the man above.

  19. There are certain changes I chafe against, but some changes I embrace. Going on a diet, waking up a little earlier than usual have me bristling with irritation.

    Have a great weekend.

  20. I'm exactly like you. Some changes are embraced and celebrated. Others? Not so much. That would be a whole, entire column right there, that very subject.

Any idea how to get boys to pick up after themselves - voluntarily? Now, that would be a welcome change. A mother can hope, can't she?

Hey, hope and change. Sounds familiar. :)

  21. I like change (nickels, dimes, and quarters.) I like new restaurants. That is about it. I have a lot of trouble with change. I am learning to let God handle those kinds of things. I wish I could embrace adventure, but I'm a couch and book type of person.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jules,
Lol - yes, I know what you mean! :)

    Rachna,
That's a good way to put it - embracing change...I am working on it!

    Rhonda,
Yes it could be a whole column, couldn't it? Oh my. Maybe if you hide change under the things the boys are supposed to pick up - it might catch on? :)

    Nancy,
I like new restaurants too! If we save enough change, we can go to them. :)

    Blessings,
    Karen

  23. I naturally resist change but have been trying to embrace it lately. Can't fight it, so might as well make the best of it. And like you said, knowing God is in control provides some level of peace, even with the changes that are hardest to embrace.

  24. Id say that i do it all for rock and roll, i always wanted to say that folks, lol. Money is not my main motorvation, although i know that it is for a lot of folks. We are supposed to receave some snow over my way in the Lancaster area, so this would be the very first time that its snowed in Oct since 1972!. Richard from Amish Stories

  25. Change--a tough topic for me. I generally dislike it and always have.

However, once I had children, change was inevitable, as was learning to adapt quickly to it. Adapt or fall behind, right?

One thing change has taught me is that it can be a positive thing, leading me to grow in areas I wouldn't have guessed I needed to grow in. When change does knock the wind out of me, though, I remember that "this it the day the Lord hath made." That short sentence helps ease my fear of certain changes.

    Good question. :-)

  26. I haven't experienced change in a long time, but I'm ready for it. In fact, I'm more than ready, I'm anxious. And about change, I love rolling the stuff. The more the merrier.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ruth,
Me too, trying to go with the flow! I'm a work in progress. :)

    Richard,
Lol! I heard about the snow. How much did you get? A friend in Souderton has a slushy, crunchy mess.

    Janette,
You're right, change can be positive! It is good to remember that He makes each day. :)

    Vyantesh,
    Thanks for stopping by!

    Joylene,
Sounds like you have a winning perspective on the whole deal!

    Blessings,

  28. hehehehe!

Change is hard. On the other hand, it's going to happen, whether you like it or not, so might as well go along for the ride! ;)

  29. My husband and I have six kids in our blended family, three of them are teenagers so I have learned to roll with the punches and to go with the flow. We can never manage to plan anything (even a simple family dinner) the kids always have some sort of school activity, cheer, sporting events etc. To make it even worse, one of our girls started dating this year so we like to be home when she leaves and gets home. In a nutshell, I embrace change whether I like it or not.

As for the other kind of change (cute pic btw). My ten year old son empties my purse and my husbands pockets daily for loose change. He grabs it anytime he can find it and saves it for one year. He breaks open the bank each year for vacation. Last year he had over $400 in change. It does add up.
